He is best known for his book Studer’s Popular Ornithology, published in several editions, which contained 119 full color plates of North American birds, some of which are now extinct. The stunning images contained inside were dedicated to his late wife and daughters, who had passed before its second publication in 1888. These rare chromolithographs depicting the birds in their nature habitat. The books also contain physical descriptions, accounts from other ornithologists, and local folklore.
